Do you know about unicorn?

Posted by burdujan pe 02/02/2010

Though the modern unicorn is usually depicted as a majestic white horse with one long horn growing from its forehead, traditional imagery also includes a billy goat beard, lion’s tail, and cloven hooves.
It was highly sought after in the middle ages for its horn, which was believed to neutralize poison, and for its milk, which was thought to be an aphrodisiac.

New Zealand legend

Posted by burdujan pe 18/01/2010

The first New Zealanders were the Maoris, who travelled there by boat about ten thousand years ago.
Maori legend has it that Maui fished New Zealand’s north island up out of the sea.
Legenda Maori spune că Maui a pescuit insula de nord a Noii Zeelande din mare.
Maui was a legendary Maori demi-god, whose magic fishing net caught the sun, allowing Maui to ask it to make the days longer.

The south island was his canoe.
Insula de sud a fost barca lui.
When you look at a map of the north island, it looks like a fish.

With Maui were his brothers, who promised to stay on the canoe while Maui dived down into the sea to thank the gods for his discovery.
While waiting, the brothers got greedy, and started trying to divide up the land by beating the fish.
When Maui came up and stopped them, the fish had changed shape – which is how the north island got its valleys and mountains.
